The reality of Sexuality.

Issues of sexuality and things in-between are quite not an easy topic to tackle, but here I am, not promising to make you believe but promising to say the truth and only the truth. Let me begin with a disclaimer; I am not the pervert that you think I am, I am simply a curious bebe that has a few answers that I don’t want to keep to myself, therefore, I write for those people who are ready and willing to listen to these truths..

Last week I had a chance of attending a media training by Reproductive Health Uganda, a lot was said and I must say, I learnt a lot from whatever was said and interestingly most of the things that were said were true or are happening in real life and are not a myth at any level of life although we tend to perceive them as immoral and unrealistic, like can you imagine that most problems that occur in families are brewed in the bedroom?

First of all we have to embrace the fact that the African Sexual cliché is real and alive, many parents don’t want their children to be told about things of sex and sexuality. Most schools don’t accept CSOs(Community Service Officers) to talk to students about sex and sexuality and neither do they give their students condoms on the basis of Religion and morals but let’s face it, there is a lot of stuff happening out there that is putting the future of this country in a state of quagmire and we are the reason as to why the future is at risk.

Sex Education is a necessity that many parents and teachers side-line because of the carefulness and commitment that comes with it. You might not be interested in teaching your 19 year old about how to use condoms but how sure are you that he isn’t having sex in the first place.
The many restrictions we have put to life are becoming vague in this generation and in the rest, youth are getting to know a lot from Uncle Google instead of getting this Information from their parents or school and the thing about Uncle Google is that he is very misleading and not all information generated there is correct.

The African Sex Cliché must be put to rest, because for us to tackle Reproductive Health issues, we have to be head-on and fast, lest we see numbers running towards the ceiling. Numbers of still-births, numbers of defilement, numbers of unsafe abortions, HIV/AIDs numbers, Numbers of people acquiring STIs and the most unfortunate bit is that these numbers rise because we are trying to protect the youth from getting to know about things like sex that they probably already know.
